Wondolowski makes "dinner plans" with Panama defender; Klinsmann approves

+

Chris Wondolowski entered the second half of the USMNT's match against Panama with a bit of a chip on his shoulder and motivated for redemption. Wondo sure was fired up, and he let this Panamanian defender know exactly how he felt. Best of all, Coach Klinsmann seemed to approve.

Martins' lucky chip against Quakes named 2014 MLS Goal of the Year

+

For the fourth year in a row, a player on a Cascadian team has been awarded MLS Goal of the Year honors. This time, the Pacific Northwest ballot-box stuffers gifted the award to the Sounders' Obafemi Martins for his lucky no-look chip shot over Earthquakes goalkeeper Jon Busch that gave Seattle a 1-0 victory. Busch's expression was priceless; certainly more entertaining than the goal itself!

Simon Dawkins made his potentially last game in an Earthquakes uniform a special one, scoring two of the team's four goals en route to a season-ending 4-2 victory over FC Dallas. For his superb first strike of the night, a rocket to the Upper 90, Dawkins was one of five nominees for MLS Goal of the Week. Vote early, and vote often.

Chris Wondolowski carried the San Jose Earthquakes to victory against the New England Revolution last weekend with a pair of quality goals. The first of those was rightly included in the MLS Goal of the Week competition, and you can vote him the winner here. Catching a 75 yard bomb from David Bingham, Wondo needed just the slightest of gaps in the Revs defense to put the Quakes up 1-0. As Jay Heaps described on the broadcast, "World Class" indeed.

Chris Wondolowski passes Landon Donovan on the all-time San Jose Earthquakes scoring list with this beautiful volleyed finish against Sporting Kansas City. (Nice job by the video editors to cut out the Teal Bunbury equalizer that occurred just seconds later.)

Steven Lenhart was named MLS Player of the Week by the North American Soccer Reporters on Monday after scoring a hat trick and notching an assist in San Jose's 4-2 win at D.C. United over the weekend. Since Lenhart's return to the starting XI from arthroscopic knee surgery on April 30, the Quakes are an impressive 4-1-2. Along with Chris Wondolowski and Simon Dawkins, Lenhart makes up part of the highest scoring offensive trio in MLS.
