San Jose Earthquakes song of the season: Crooners characterize the Quakes

New this season, the San Jose Earthquakes have debuted a weekly Google Hangout featuring members of the club's broadcasting team. Live every Tuesday at noon, the expert panel includes TV, radio, and internet personalities giving their perspectives on the Quakes. This week, that included picking a song that personifies the 2013 season so far.

The Earthquakes weekly Hangout is a fantastic way to catch some expert analysis of the team and insider knowledge on their training sessions. Occasionally, the show also provides some humor (I'm looking at you, Dan Dibley), though much of that goes on before the show goes live. This week, the panelists had some fun and, instead of the usual opening bit of providing headlines, gave their songs that best describe the season to date.

Leading off was KLIV 1590 play-by-play man Anthony Passarelli, who went with the Rolling Stones classic, "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction." As Pass says, the team is not happy with the results are neither are the fans.

Up next was KLIV 1590 color commentator Chris Dangerfield, the former Earthquakes player from the NASL days of the club, who predictably threw out a Beatles cut, "The Long And Winding Road." Sure enough, with a 34 game schedule, the Earthquakes with 12 games played are only a third of the way through the season.

Yours truly went with a double dip of dulcet tunes, electing to serve up "Changes" by David Bowie to describe the season to date -- it seems every week, head coach Frank Yallop is forced to make changes to his starting eleven.

And what has been missing this season is the kind of luck that the team rode to so many positive results in 2012. The stoppage time goals are there, but they've also barely missed on so many other chances. Add to that how the goals they've given up have been more of the world-class variety, and the Earthquakes are due, as Daft Punk's new single reminds us, to "Get Lucky."

What are your songs of the season? We'd love to hear them, so leave your best selections in the jukebox, er, comments below.
