The U16 and U18 Earthquakes Academy squads play a full schedule up and down the West Coast throughout the year. This weekend Quakes fans have the opportunity to watch the "Junior Goonies" play local rivals De Anza Force in Cupertino.
The San Jose Earthquakes developmental teams play year-round in the Northwest Division of the Western Conference under the auspices of the US Soccer Development Academy. Their home games are easily accessible to spectators, and are frequently played at the Earthquakes Training Facility on Coleman Avenue or at the Mustang Soccer Complex in Danville.
The 1906 Ultras have enthusiastically taken the Junior Goonies to their hearts and often turn up at the local venues to support the youngsters. This weekend's double header against the De Anza Force also provides the opportunity for Quakes fans to tune their vocal cords, practice their chants and keep those arm muscles loose as they wave their scarves - remember, there's only one week left to prepare for First Kick of the 2013 MLS season on March 3rd. In return, the juniors are always very appreciative of the Ultras' support and show their appreciation with applause after the match.
This weekend the Earthquakes Academy U16 squad have a challenge on their hands facing a Force U16 squad that is fourteen points clear of their nearest rival - the Quakes U16 currently lie in fourth spot. The Earthquakes Academy U18 squad is two points clear in their division, just four points ahead of the Force's U18 team. Just as important as the success of the Academy players on the field, we learned this week that ten of the U18 squad have signed college commitments to Division I college programs- congratulations to each of them.
Why not check out the future stars of the San Jose Earthquakes? Both games will be played under sunny skies on Sunday, February 24th at the soccer field at De Anza College at 21250 Stevens Creek Boulevard, Cupertino, CA 95014. Kick off for the U18 game will be 12:00 PM, followed by the U16 game at 2:30 PM.
